Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance of New Orleans
Our PurposeYou are not alone. Our purpose is to support all those living with the effects of mood disorders, including friends and family.
Mood disorders are manageable. Life can be well-lived while dealing with the challenges of living with a mood disorder. The first step in wellness is admitting that you need help. A three-legged approach is recommended: medical assistance, healthy life style, and support groups. At our group meetings people share, confer, seek ideas, vent, laugh, and affirm each other. And sometimes people just listen. Family members and loved ones learn the three C’s: they didn’t cause it, they can’t control it, and they can’t cure it. Most meetings consist of small group discussion with a facilitator or two at the table. People discuss current life-issues and seek ideas and solutions. Occasionally, we invite a professional to address the entire group on a relevant issue related to our goal of wellness (psycho-social, employment, mind-body wellness, etc.) At each meeting our library and an extensive array of free materials are available. We have quarterly BP and Esperanza magazines available while supplies last. Support groups are guided by the principles of sharing, confidentiality, trust, responsibility, and mutual respect. Respecting these principles we work together to understand, gain confidence, and achieve wellness. Welcome to the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance of New Orleans
